kubi 2.0 User Guideby iPresence

Using Robot-Stand Connect

Robot-Stand Connect is a free app for turning kubi 2.0's head remotely. It has no calling feature, so you use it together with the video call app you already use, such as Zoom or Google Meet. This page explains how to use it with kubi 2.0.

These steps are for kubi 2.0. If you use it with a first-generation kubi, also see For first-generation kubi users.

Prepare the iPad on site

Install Robot-Stand Connect on the iPad mounted on kubi 2.0 and connect (pair) it with kubi 2.0 via Bluetooth. Until this is done, you cannot connect from a browser on the remote side.

When you finish

The iPad is connected to kubi 2.0, and you know the kubi ID to give to the remote side.

Before you start

  • kubi 2.0 with the iPad mounted and powered on (Setup)
  • An iPad connected to the internet
  1. Install the app on the iPad

Install Robot-Stand Connect (free) on the iPad from the App Store. It works on iPadOS 13.0 or later.

Open Robot-Stand Connect on the App Store

  2. Allow access

When you open the app for the first time, it asks for access. Allow the following.

    Bluetooth
Used to connect to kubi 2.0.
    Location
Used to show where kubi 2.0 is on the map on the remote side's screen.
  3. Connect to kubi 2.0

Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to connect to the nearby kubi 2.0. When connected, the status lamp on kubi 2.0 turns solid blue.

  4. Note the kubi ID and send it to the remote side

Write down the "kubi ID" shown in the app and send it by email or chat to the person who will control kubi 2.0. They use this ID to connect.

Check

You are done when the status lamp on kubi 2.0 is solid blue and you have sent the kubi ID to the remote side.

Connect from the remote side

The person controlling kubi 2.0 opens Robot-Stand Connect in a browser on a computer or smartphone and connects with the kubi ID. No app installation is needed.

When you finish

You can turn kubi 2.0's head from somewhere else.

Before you start

  • The on-site preparation is done (guide 1)
  • The kubi ID from the on-site side
  • A device with Google Chrome (latest version)
  1. Open Robot-Stand Connect in a browser

Open the following address in Google Chrome. A computer is recommended, but a smartphone or iPad also works. On an iPad, you can also use the App Store app.

    https://robot-stand-connect.web.app/

  2. Enter the kubi ID and connect

Enter the kubi ID you received from the on-site side and connect to kubi 2.0.

Screenshot: kubi ID entry screen in Robot-Stand Connect (browser) (to be added)
  3. Try turning the head

Change the direction of kubi 2.0 on the control screen. While the head is moving, the status lamp on kubi 2.0 blinks blue slowly.

Check

You are done when kubi 2.0's head on site moves as you change the direction on the control screen.

Control during a video call

Start a call with the on-site side on Zoom, Google Meet or similar, and turn the head with Robot-Stand Connect while watching the video. The remote side uses two things: a device to move kubi 2.0 and a device for the call (you can open both on one computer).

When you finish

You can talk with people on site while pointing kubi 2.0 wherever you want to look.

Before you start

  • You can connect from the remote side (guide 2)
  • For Zoom: install the Zoom app on both the remote device and the on-site iPad, and sign in on the remote side
  • For Google Meet: sign in with a Google account on the remote side, and install the Google Meet app on the on-site iPad
  • Allow camera and microphone access on the on-site iPad
  1. Remote side: start a video call and send an invitation

    Zoom
Start a "New meeting", then choose "Participants" → "Invite" → "Copy invite link" and send the link to the on-site side. You can also share the meeting ID and passcode. If you use a waiting room, press "Admit" when the on-site side arrives.
    Google Meet
At meet.google.com (or in the app), choose "New meeting" → "Start an instant meeting" and send the meeting link to the on-site side. When they ask to join, press "Admit".
  2. On site: join the call on the kubi 2.0 iPad

Open the invitation link on the kubi 2.0 iPad to join. Zoom opens its app; in Google Meet, press "Ask to join" and wait to be admitted. Turn the camera and microphone on and check that the front camera (screen side) is being used. Change the layout if needed so that the remote person appears large.

  3. Remote side: turn the head while watching the video

When the on-site video and audio come through, change kubi 2.0's direction on the Robot-Stand Connect control screen. If you use one computer for both, place the call window and the Chrome control screen side by side so you can watch the other side while moving kubi 2.0.

Do not touch the on-site iPad during the call

Also keep objects away from kubi 2.0. The remote side moves the head.

  4. Finish

Leave the video call and disconnect Robot-Stand Connect.

Check

You are done when you can change kubi 2.0's direction from the remote side while talking with people on site.

BComputerThe same computerPlace the call window and the Chrome control screen side by side. On Windows, drag a window to the edge of the screen to snap it to half the screen.

Troubleshooting

kubi 2.0 does not move
Check in this order: (1) Robot-Stand Connect shows that it is connected, (2) the kubi ID was entered correctly, (3) the on-site iPad is connected to kubi 2.0 (the status lamp is blue), (4) kubi 2.0 is on and has battery.
Audio feedback
If several devices in the same room are in the call, turn off the microphone and speaker on every device except the one used by the person talking. If you control kubi 2.0 from a smartphone, do not join the call from it.
The on-site side cannot join the call
Check that the remote side has admitted them from the waiting room (Zoom) or approved the join request (Google Meet).
No video or audio
Check that camera and microphone access are allowed in the device settings and that the camera and microphone are on in the app.
